Dorothy L. Starnes - Partner

 

   

Dorothy L. Starnes was born in Franklin, Tennessee. She is admitted to the bar in Tennessee and before the Federal District Court, Western District of Tennessee.

Ms. Starnes received her undergraduate degree from Kansas State University and her law degree from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law where she was a member of the Law Review as well as articles editor. She authored “Fixtures: Tennessee’s New Law on Resolutions of Conflicts between Article Nine Security Interests and Owners and Encumbrancers of Realty,” 16 Memphis State University Law Review 115. She also authored “Evidence - A Missing Link Discovered in the Missing Witness Rule,” 15 Memphis State University Law Review 105. Ms. Starnes served as a federal district court law clerk for the Honorable Robert M. McRae, Jr., in the Western District of Tennessee. She presents programs on employee benefits topics throughout the United States to individual employers, business associations and attorneys.

Ms. Starnes is author of the King & Ballow Comment Series booklet, Employee Benefits: Manager’s Guide to COBRA Compliance and three online CLE courses entitled “Cobra 101 - What You Always Wanted to Know About COBRA But Were Afraid To Ask,” “COBRA 102 - Beyond the Basics” and “ERISA 101 - Identifying and Defending ERISA Claims.” She is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee and American Bar Associations, the Napier-Looby Bar Association, and the Middle Tennessee Employee Benefits Council. Ms. Starnes serves on the board of directors of the Eighteenth Avenue Family Enrichment Center and is a board member of the Grace M. Eaton Child Care and Parent Resource Center. Her practice areas include ERISA, Employee Benefits, Pension Law and Business and Tax Law.
