Tonda F. Rush serves with
King k Ballow in an
of-counsel capacity. She practices with the firm in the Washington, D.C.
area and assists King k Ballow in postal,
legislative and executive branch representation, as well as in newspaper
legal hotlines. Ms. Rush is also involved in various aspects of Newspaper
and Communications Law, including Internet and New Media Agreements, Distribution,
First Amendment, Freedom of Information and Newsroom cases, and human
resource-related matters. She has represented the newspaper industry in
postal rate cases and other concerns involving the U.S. Postal Service for 23
years.
Ms. Rush was president of the National
Newspaper Association from 1992 until March 1997. Previously, she was
associate general counsel and vice president for industry affairs of the
American Newspaper Publishers Association (now Newspaper Association of America).
She was executive director of the FOI
Center of the Reporters Committee
for Freedom of the Press from 1980-1983 and before that was a reporter and
editor for newspapers in the Midwest. She
is a member of the board of directors for the Student Press
Law Center
and serves as counsel to the Virginia Coalition for Open Government. She is
also a member of the executive committee of the Sunshine in Government
Initiative, representing the National Newspaper Association.
Ms. Rush is a 1974 graduate of the William White
School of Journalism and a 1979
graduate of the University
of Kansas School of
Law. She is admitted to practice in courts in Kansas,
Virginia and the District
of Columbia and before the United States Supreme Court.
Certifications of Specialization are available to Tennessee lawyers in
all areas of practice relating to or included in the areas of Civil Trial,
Criminal Trial, Business Bankruptcy, Consumer Bankruptcy, Creditor's
Rights, Medical Malpractice, Legal Malpractice, Accounting Malpractice,
