One can be admitted for up to 6 months, no employment is allowed.

Waiver Pilot Program -- Program for short-term (90 day) visitor admissions
to the United States.
Only available for countries participating in the program.

Business personnel overseeing or working for an investment enterprise in
the U.S.
or that is engaged in trade between the U.S. and an investment or trade
treaty country. The investment must be "substantial"
depending upon the size of the business. If a trade enterprise, there
must be ongoing transactions.
H-1B
Specialty Occupation requiring a U.S. bachelor's degree or equivalent is
used for professionals in fields such as information technology, education,
health care, engineering, research and accounting, but is not limited to
these if it is shown to be a specialty occupation.
H-2B
Designed for temporary admission for skilled and unskilled workers for
seasonal, intermittent or recurring temporary assignments. H-2Bs can
be used for entertainers and athletes who do not qualify for O or P status.
L-1
Intracompany transfer to the U.S. for executives
managers and specialized knowledge personnel. Designed for easy
transfer of foreign personnel from a company facility abroad to a new or
established U.S.
office of that company.
TN-1
NAFTA Professionals: For Canadians and Mexicans possessing bachelor's
degrees and required licensing. Also includes registered nurses and
management consultants.
J-1
Exchange Visitor Status. Visitors may be admitted in a number of
categories, including medical graduates, researcher and scholars, trainees,
au pairs and short exchange stays. Some nationals may be subject to a
two-year foreign residency requirement. They must return to their
home countries for two years before changing to another status or pursuing
permanent residency. Limited waivers may be available.
O-1
Extraordinary Ability -- arts, science, sports, business, television,
motion pictures -- for those who have achieved distinction in their fields.
P-1
Individual and Team Athletes and Internationally Recognized Entertainment
Groups -- must have demonstrated international acclaim.
F-1,
M-1
F-1 student visas are designed for academic programs and status may be
maintained as long as the educational program. M-1 visas are designed
for nonacademic educational programs.
H-1C
Nurses in Underserved Areas. This is a new visa with limited numbers
for nurses in underserved rural and urban areas.

Temporary Agricultural Workers

Temporary Worker Trainees may be admitted to the U.S. for a time-limited
training program.
P-2
Entertainment Exchange Program is a limited program for exchange of workers
in the entertainment field.

Culturally Unique Performers may be admitted for special performances
related to the culture of their home countries.
R-1
Religious Workers may be admitted to work in a religious occupation and
must have been a member of a religious denomination for two years prior to
entry and continue to work at an affiliated U.S. religious denomination.
